Get Out the (New American) Vote!

After Halloween, voters will head to the polls on November 2 to decide on this much anticipated midterm elections. It has been an extremely contentious campaign season in federal, state, and local levels. Unfortunately, horrifyingly xenophobic and anti-immigrant stances have become politically expedient strategies during these anxious economic times.

At the same time, over twelve percent of registered voters in Massachusetts are immigrants or children or immigrants. It is vitally important for this group to come out to vote to show a collective voice in defense of immigrant rights and change the tone of the public debate around immigration, and push for much-needed reform and expansion of integration policies.

MIRA has just embarked on the largest Get Out the Vote drive in its history. Over 2,500 newly sworn-in citizens have been registered by MIRA volunteers, who have also called 8,000 New American voters about the voting process.

Non-partisan voter’s guides for the governor’s race and all ten US congressional races are available on our website. We also urge voters to vote ‘no’ on all three ballot questions to protect vital public services that affects affordable housing, addiction prevention services, health care, and education.

In the next four days, we will have callers who speak English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Haitian Creole, Cantonese and Russian, but we also want you there too! Please contact Filipe, at 617-350-5480 ext. 200 or fzamborlini@miracoalition.org to sign up to volunteer.

See you at the polls!
